what makes a city or town great?
that it's a great place to be.
to the profoundest possible degree it revolves around pedestrianism
that is
walking
it revolves around the sidewalk, or walking space
and the scene there
how much of the citizen's time is spent in this space?
the more the better
there are three spaces
home, work, and the walking space
can we engineer an economy that demands less of the citizen's time for work
so that more of it can be spent in the walking space?
or
can we enhance the interaction between, the merging of
work space and walking space?
an economy built around less work? Scandalous!
but, why?
a frantic concern about working "a lot"
sounds a little like desperation
at the very least
getting a lot done seems like a more reasonable construct
we are talking, here, about a pr problem
1) how do we get the city, the body politic, to support greatly expanded efforts on behalf of walkable space?
1a) start mapping and sketching the kind of environment or landscape we want to generate
1b) start mapping and sketching the efforts creating that will require
